The Civilised Cyclist taster days

Ahead of launching next Summer we have been having a few taster days over the past month with rides exploring the Hampshire countryside. It was great to see the enthusiasm of our guinea pigs about e-bikes - some of whom are regular cyclists and others who hadn’t sat on a bike in 10 years – the consensus was that they are revolutionary! Adding that little bit of boost up any tough hill so that you can sail up without a care in the world, whilst still being enough of a workout so that you can earn your lunch (but only if you want to)! Even with differing fitness levels and cycling experience within the group no one was ever left behind or peddling hard to keep up as the boost allowed for the chat to keep flowing.

One of the top pieces of feedback that was universally given was the importance of lunch and luckily, we delivered on all the days from a spread of tapas that covered the table to delicious gourmet local meals with the odd tea and cake for elevenses in between – importantly the cyclists certainly never went hungry. It undoubtedly has been good fun trialling local restaurants to find the most delicious ones for our guests and I am looking forward to continuing this.

The Hampshire countryside is one I know well having lived there most of my life and it was wonderful to be able to share it with others. Particularly on the glorious sunny days were everything seemed to sparkle, but even when overcast it does not fail to impress. Being so familiar with the area really allowed us to sneak off onto lesser-known smooth off-road tracks and country lanes to fully immerse ourselves in the landscape, spying various historic landmarks and pretty villages or market towns on our way. Views, like when skiing, are essential to a good ride. There is nothing better than looking out over a blue sky view with fields below and breathing the fresh air at the top of a hill and, similar to skiing, the wind in your hair on the way down isn’t too bad either.

We are so excited to launch our new rides next summer. Exploring some of the best that the south of England has to offer with themed routes focusing on gardens, gourmet, and the classic rides we hope that there will be someone for everyone. Bring on summer 23!
